The Bitpalace Business Booster is a shared hosting web space. Several customers share the same hardware. The customer accounts are strictly isolated from each other by many security measures. The Linux command line is missing some common Linux commands that you may know from root servers.

Cause

Full Linux access as it can be found on root servers would enable a customer account to access the data of other customers. Further, customers could change system daemons, stop or restart them and therewith influence the behavior of other customer's websites. To prevent these security breaches, the Linux command set on the Linux console is limited.

Solution

The Bitpalace Business Booster includes SSH access to a chrooted bash shell. While the commands are limited, all important commands like gzip and tar are available. These Linux commands are available on the Linux command line (console):
